James Michael Hemmings Obituary

James Michael Hemmings, 82, of Morganton, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Frye Regional Hospital following a period of declining health.

James was born February 5, 1939 in Surry County to the late Lewis James Hemmings and Annice Marshall Hemmings. He was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church. James was a great ball player that enjoyed watching or playing any type of sport and established all the ball fields at Mull Elementary School.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ken Hemmings.

He is survived by his wife of thirty seven years, Violet McGee Hemmings; daughter, Rebecca Hemmings; granddaughter, Anabeth Lowman; and step-daughter, Tammy Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Pastor Lonnie Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Sunday prior to service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
