Mr. Wayburn Harvey Jones, 73, of Valdese passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Harvey was born January 23, 1948 in Burke County to Ivey Wayburn Jones and the late Hilda Ogle Jones. He was a member of Waldensian Presbyterian Church and was in the Chancel Choir. Harvey served in the United States Coast Guard. He had a passion for playing golf, Boston Red Soxs , the Chicago Bears and enjoyed construction renovations for others and DIY projects. Wayburn enjoyed serving as a volunteer to his community in several different programs and organizations - he served as past president of the Valdese Lions Club, was a current member and former president of the LPDA, played for the Valdesians fast pitch softball traveling team, was a youth basketball coach and referee, East Burke High School Booster Club, American Legion, Valdese Swim Team supporter, Town of Valdese's Relay for Life, Valdese Rescue Squad, and Boy Scouts of America (as a youth then adult leader). Harvey was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, friend and mentor.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Debbie Robinson Jones; children, Matthew Aaron Jones and girlfriend Ava of Valdese, Travis Ryan Jones of Raleigh, and his four legged daughter, Fenway; and grandchildren, Ethan Bruner, Airen Jones, Hannah Jones and Owen Jones. Also surviving is his sister Kathy Jones Wellman; five nieces; two nephews; six great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
